What does $29.95 buy?

Mad Librarian and every update to it. One payment — no subscription and nothing to renew.

Can I try it first?

There is no trial version. Everything it does is described on the Mad Librarian page, down to the measurements, and if it does not work for you, the refund policy gives you your money back within 14 days, for any reason.

Where do I download it?

From the page you see straight after paying: your licence key is there, with a link to the installer. The link works for a day. To download Mad Librarian again later — a new computer, a fresh Windows — use Lost your key? with the email address you bought with and the Transaction ID on your Paddle receipt (it starts with txn_); it gives you the key and a new link.

How many computers can I use it on?

Two at a time. The licence is yours rather than a machine's, so you can move it whenever you like: press Deactivate this computer in About → Licence… on the one you are leaving, or — if that computer is gone — release it from the new one when it asks. A licence is for you alone; please don't share your key — and because a shared key would hop from computer to computer, a licence may land on at most three computers it has not seen before in any 30 days. If you really do replace more than that, write to us.

Where does the licence key go?

The first time Mad Librarian starts, it opens its licence window and asks for it: paste the key and press Activate. Activating needs the internet once. After that Mad Librarian checks in on its own whenever the computer is online, and keeps working offline for up to 30 days at a time. About → Licence… is where you manage it afterwards.

I have lost my key

Use Lost your key? on the Mad Librarian page — which also gives you a new link to the installer — or Find my key in Mad Librarian's licence window. Both need the email address you bought with and the Transaction ID on your Paddle receipt, the long number starting txn_ (the invoice number on the PDF works too). If the receipt has gone too, paddle.net can find your order. Still stuck? Write to support and we will sort it out.

Why do the receipt and the charge say Paddle?

Paddle is our reseller and the Merchant of Record for every order. It takes the payment, handles sales tax and VAT, and issues the invoice — so the receipt and the line on your statement come from Paddle rather than from us.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. The refund policy says how and when. Refunds are paid back through Paddle, to the card you paid with.

Do I need an account?

No. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to sign in to — the key is all there is.

What does it need?

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Nothing else to install: everything it runs on is inside the installer. For the features that talk to DAZ Studio — loading, applying materials, the DAZ Scene view — DAZ Studio 4 (64-bit) or DAZ Studio 6.

Does it need administrator rights?

Not for the app. It installs for your Windows account only, and updates the same way. The DAZ plugin is the one exception: it lives in DAZ Studio's own program folder, so putting it there asks Windows for permission once.

How do I install the DAZ plugin?

Close DAZ Studio. Click Install the DAZ plugin… on Mad Librarian's status bar and press the button in the Settings window it opens. Windows asks for permission once, and DAZ Studio loads the plugin the next time it starts. After an update that brings a newer plugin, the same button reads Update the DAZ plugin…

Windows asked whether to run the installer

Check the publisher it names: the installer is signed by Affection X, LLC. If Windows names anyone else, don't run it — write to us instead. While the publisher is new to Windows, SmartScreen may also say the app is not commonly downloaded yet; More info shows the publisher name, and Run anyway installs it.

How does it update?

By itself. It looks shortly after it starts and every few hours, and downloads a new version in the background — usually only the few files that changed. When one is ready the status bar shows Update … is ready — Restart: press it, or carry on and it installs the next time you close the app. Check for updates in the About box looks straight away. Updates are free, and come to every activated copy.

How do I uninstall it?

In Windows Settings, open Apps, find Mad Librarian and choose Uninstall. The app and the DAZ plugin it installed are removed. Your DAZ content is never touched.

Does it change or move my DAZ files?

No. Mad Librarian reads your library and never modifies or deletes a vendor's file. The folders you make, the branches you move and the items you hide are its own records, not changes on disk. The one thing that writes into your library is Load Content, when you ask it to install a zip: it adds the product's files the way DAZ Install Manager would, and lists everything it did.

Does DAZ Studio need to be running?

Only to put things into it. Browsing, searching and organising work with DAZ Studio closed. Loading, applying materials, the DAZ Scene view and Import categories need it running, with the plugin installed.

Something I own isn't showing

Three things hold items back, and the line above the grid always says which of them is doing it:

• What to show — Poser files, scripts, and items you own but haven't downloaded all start switched off.
• Filter by generation, at the bottom of the tree.
• Anything you have hidden. Tick Show hidden to see it again.

If a whole library is missing, point at it with Add folder…, or press Rescan.

Where are the morph dials?

Switched off on a fresh install, because most libraries hold more dials than everything else put together. Turn them on under What to show → Morphs.

Double-clicking doesn't load anything

Check that the DAZ plugin is installed in the DAZ Studio that Mad Librarian is aimed at. If you have more than one DAZ Studio, the button on the toolbar that names one is where you choose. DAZ Studio doesn't need to be open already — if it isn't, Mad Librarian starts it and loads the item once it is ready.

How do I keep my folders and arrangement safe?

Right-click in the tree and choose Back up your organisation… It saves your folders, moved branches, hidden items and added libraries to one file. Restore from a backup… puts them back, on this PC or a new one.

Does it send anything about my library?

No. What it sends over the internet is the update check and download; the licence check — your key, the computer's name, the app version and a one-way fingerprint of the computer, so a licence can be on two computers; and, only when you press Find my key, your email address and order number. Nothing about your library, your content or how you use the app leaves your machine. The privacy policy has the details.
